Going solo

So you see, imagination needs moodling -- long, inefficient, happy idling, dawdling, and puttering.
~Brenda Ueland

Last week I found myself with a weekday night completely free of obligations and an empty house. It was all the encouragement I needed to dash into the city to see the Museum of Fine Art's brand new Art of the Americas wing. It was my version of moodling: just following my own whims for an hour or two. I dawdled around the art exhibits and had soup and salad in the new courtyard. Lovely! It also allowed me a few Mrs.-Basil-E-Frankweiler daydreams of living in a museum.

They've done a beautiful job with the new wing. Instead of segregating the furniture and the objects and the paintings into different exhibit rooms, they've mixed everything all together. I loved it. Gorgeous color combinations and textile patterns, great lighting, and of course the art.

^Love this one. Those vases are the actual ones used in the portrait. Cool, huh?

Once in a while, it's really refreshing to do something solo. (As you know, I'm not against going to a movie matinee once in a while by myself either.) What about you? When was the last time you did something on your own? (Showers and bathroom time don't count, y'all!)

Alone? Solo? Even to the bathroom and shower? I wish. I guess that is the joy of raising young ones (and living in a home so old that the doors don't have locks. And I can't bring myself to replace the original doorknobs. Though a minute or tow on the loo by my lonesome would be nice and maybe even worth it!!!!)

I'm glad you are feeling better.

P.S. Your photos of the art are beautiful.

One of the greatest gifts your friendship gave me was the chutzpah to go see movies by myself. I consider it the most luxurious delight and I love doing it. I will never stop, thanks to you.

Though, I do wish you were around. None of my peeps here want to see Burlesque. I know you'd be up for anything. We'd sit with our DCs, our popcorn, and our junior mints...it would be musical heaven. I might sneak myself off to it tomorrow. I'll think of you, friend. Miss you.

And you took pictures! Ack! I always get in trouble for taking pictures in a museum. I like to do stuff with someone else so i can tell them how it cool it is while we do it. More fun. But I shop by myself all the time.

Maybe I should go see a movie by myself next week .Nah - I'll probably invite a friend. Wanna come?

Every Monday morning I volunteer in my daughter's first grade class. And almost every week afterward, I go to lunch alone. I've really come to look forward to that little hour of quiet solo time.

Ah, so jealous. I love that museum and it looks like it's been updated beautifully!! When Jane and I were at the Met in Oct., the American wing was in the process of being remodeled. GRRRRRR... We saw everything behind glass, which was ok, but Washington crossing the Delaware was not on display. That equaled one unhappy ten year old.

The temple is my favorite alone time each week. Every once in a while friends join me, like yesterday, but mostly it's me and I love it.

Every day. :) I've heard the new wing of the MFA is great; I need to get over there. I love the boy with the torn hat painting.

Oh goodie! I am allllll over that! We could try and meet up again...
I must see that Mondrian display-I'm thinking I might paint Solomon's room in that style and I need some inspiration. I cherish alone time.
