You know your husband's out of town when...

  • you delay going to the grocery store until every shred of cereal, piece of pasta, and ounce of peanut butter has been consumed by the kids
  • you rent a bunch of movies, fully expecting to watch them the first night...
  • ...and you succeed, indulging your night owl tendencies that are usually tempered by his early bird leanings
  • the milk consumption in the house drastically decreases
  • when you look at the clock at 7 pm, you are positive that it is broken, sure that it must be at least 9
  • you contemplate changing every clock in the house to make your bedtime wishes come true
  • your heart leaps every time the phone rings, just like when you were dating
  • you wake up in the middle of the night with way too many pillows surrounding you + have to throw a bunch overboard in disgust
  • you have to turn off his alarm at 5:30 in the morning when it rings
  • the most common question in the house is "when is dad coming home?" {the answer is: soon but not soon enough}

I can sympathize with the night owl vs. early bird thing. What movies did you watch?

Oh, I have been known to change the clocks around here a time or two. That is MOST DEFINITELY allowed when you are on your own. Laughed at the phone ringing excitement and can feel your pain on the nightowlishness (totally a word). Without that voice shaking me from sleep early in the morning, I will make the most of my nights.

Hey Matt,
Here's what I've seen over the last couple of days: the whole first season of House, My Life So Far (somehow missed this...it has Colin Firth in it Scottish 1920s setting), Elizabethtown (again), and tonight it will be Before Sunset and the new tv show Damages.

Does it make me a bad person if I occasionally enjoy or look forward to a night or two on my own? It isn't that I don't love the guy. Of course I do. But I also enjoy having the house to myself, planning a night out with a friend, or installing myself on the bed at 7 p.m. with a bowl of popcorn, a box of cold Junior Mints and a cranberry juice or Pepsi on the nightstand with an unrealistic stack of DVD's to watch and a bunch of magazines I haven't culled through so that I can plan yet another wonderful pie-in-the-sky project/meal/vacation/party or better yet, the highest sky pie: a great cleanout and organizing binge. Yes, I could still take to the bed and do this with him home, but it is less likely, and besides, he's home, so why would I? MeCeeBeePea
