A bit of Friday silliness

Here's a little back story before you start the clip:

1) I love the musical Les Miserables.  I first fell in love with the music in high school + had the mixed tape in my boombox (haha...remember those?) all through my senior year.  Then I went to London for study abroad during my sophomore year in college and queued up for cheap student tickets ($5? $10? can't remember) to Les Miz no less than six times.  Cried every time. {One time I sat in the rafters next to the lighting guy.  He got a little teary there at the end, too, which kind of vindicated my own trickling, ugly-cry tears.}
2) We are big fans of How I Met Your Mother.  Love Barney and his suiting-up, borderline sleezy ways (sometimes not so borderline but fully inappropriate).  Love Marshall's sweet big goofness.
So I was SO happy when these two came together in an unlikely collision, a happy venn diagram overlap of sober operatic song and pure hilarity.  Maybe you'll like it a little too:

Now where do I sign up to be their new best friend?

This is priceless! Love the reactions of their co-stars too - and, they both have pretty good voices too, that makes it all the better.

I'm going to rewatch right now.

Oh my gosh! I have chills and tears. The best part is Megan Mullaly's reaction.

When I taught sixth grade, two of my students would do this (not well) and it cracked me up. I could watch Les Miz every single day. My dream would be to be alone in the theater so I could sing along at full-intensity without offending anyone.

Sorry to ramble...but this post really spoke my love language!

Les Miz is my all time favorite book. I read it for the first time while teaching high school special ed. I read it with my students and they LOVED it too. Isn't that fantastic! I've yet to see it in the theater but that is my dream. (Though, who needs to now. I'll just keep watching this!!!!!!) Too funny. Thanks for the laughs!

Absolutely fab! Great moment on Megan Mullaly's short-lived talk show. ? Is it still on? Neal Patrick Harris is a favorite. He is always so witty and spontaneously brilliant on talk shows, as well as in the series.

I just read gab's comment. A Sing-along big screen Les Miz, like Sound of Music version, and the current Mamma Mia, which in SLC is enjoying some screenings that are specifically sing-alongs. An idea for Les Miz whose time has come.

OH MY WORD! I loved that! I too am a Les Mis freak, read the abrideged and then uaabridged versions in high school. I too went on study abroad (Vienna 89') and watched it countless times. Saw it in London too. As I recall, stehplatz(standing room) tickets were about $2.30.

Never even heard of When I Met Your Mother. May have to check it out.

oh.my.word. i can't stand it. i took my copy of les mis into the delivery room with me. i know it from start to finish, every last word. i've even read the unabridged version. seen it on broadway who knows how many times.
and that was priceless. the best. why? because it's doogie howswer and karen. i didn't even know she had a talk show. she's so funny on wil and grace! (yes, i watch trash in addition to broadway classics).

Tim and I are both big fans of Les Miz. We listen to the music often. We wanted to take Jessica to see it in London but she wasn't keen on the idea. She once saw a local production but she was a lot younger at the time. Have your girls seen it? Loved watching the funny clip from the talk show. Thanks
Lindsay

That's hilarious.. I too did a semester abroad in London and went to see shows again, and again, and again. What better way to spend a night when student tickets are so cheap! We went to Martin Guerre so often that we made friends with the orchestra. (and it's nice to meet you again Annie!)
