On the corner of Horrifying and Funny:

Yesterday I got this text message from Lauren:

Are there any holocaust cookbooks you would suggest?

I wasn't sure if I should recoil in horror (yes) or laugh really hard (that, too). Silly auto-correct. For the record, once I asked for clarification I learned that she was asking if I knew of any good books about the holocaust.

. . .

On the corner of Funny and Hooray:

You guys, The Jolly Porter is back from blogging retirement. You're welcome.

On the corner of Hooray and Hmmm...

We sat down and watched the Les Mis 25th Anniversary Concert this weekend. Ah, memories. It was nostalgic and fun to share the music and story with my kids (and we now have wishful plans to see the musical somewhere soon). The hmmm part was when Marius came out and it was...well, I'll let you see. My girls were kind of happy about it, though.

For one of the encores, they had the original 1985 London cast join in. I know I'm showing my geek (and cliche) colors here but I LOVED it. These were the voices on my really worn taped copy of Les Mis in high school and the people I saw every few weeks when I was in London on study abroad in 89 (back in the days when I wandered around the city and listened to On My Own on my walkman). It felt like a vocal family reunion.

Although, here's the thing: it made me feel a bit aged realizing it has been 25 years. The 80s Marius is a rather old and pudgy (though obviously thrilled and emotional to be there). And you know that the 80s Cosette was all "I've still got it so I'm going to wear my black sequined onesie to show off my legs."

Anyway, you should watch it when it hits your PBS station. p.s. Les Mis is starting a US tour soon, too.

I am still in awe...One Day More is a favorite and I find myself hitting replay whenever it comes up. I will always associate Les Mes with us being neighbors. Tony and I watched the PBS 10th Anniversary every singe night (sometimes several times a night) for a month straight. Can it possibly have been 15 years ago?

I have tears just rolling down my cheeks. That music always gets me. Always. And that cast was my cast, too. Still is, matter of fact. Thanks so much for sharing. I am off to watch that clip again. And scour my PBS station to find it.

I loved this show and this cast! We took the kids when Gabe was about 8 and he marched around singing "the song of angry men" for weeks afterwards. It will be in Denver in August/Sept and you can bet we will be there!

believe it or not, i am a les mis freak. after this, however, i'm secretly hoping to see selena gomez as eponine, and the biebs as javert. it would just be priceless.

my favorite book of all times is the unabridged les mis. i even played the VHS of this during my labor and delivery. yes. i know.

Okay, so is this a true love les mis confessional? Because I'm joining right in.

Tonight Claire and I watched and sang along to the PBS special. It was bonding but Nick Jonas almost ruined it for me. I had to look away. Poor Nick. He's so outclassed in this arena.

Last year when I took Claire to London we saw the musical, which is where I saw it for the first time 23 years ago. I knew nothing about it then. Anyway, I sat next to Claire and bawled the entire time. I kind of wish I hadn't been there because I think she is emotionally scarred from the event. I don't cry much in real life.

Thank you for hosting this forum for my thoughts. I think maybe there's a blog post in this comment. Oops.

P.S. Enjolas in this cast is mine. I call him. First dibs.
