Being carded
Confession: I love Christmas cards. Love creating them (here's a parade of past years), writing them, love finding them in mailbox, reading them and, yes, love mocking them at times when they get out of hand in the braggery or too-much-information department.
I loved this Apron Stage post yesterday about Christmas cards (and the comments)--so funny and true.
I love this article in Smithsonian magazine feature, exhibiting artists' Christmas cards over the years. Lots of great ideas and creativity there.:
The ideal holiday card for me: a little funny, a little original, something that captures the family's spirit and gives a little news. Pictures, please, preferably of the whole family. (Come to think of it, it's what I like in a blog as well.)
What are your holiday card guidelines/pet peeves/preferences?
p.s How do you display your holiday cards?

So funny, I just posted a link to The Apron Stage and those all important "card rules" a few hours ago! I LOVE Christmas cards for all the same reasons. One of my favorite cards ever was a picture of 3 little kids in the family, dressed in their Christmas finery, bawling their eyes out. The card read:
"have a crappy little Christmas."
{hilarious and so relatable, I have lots of "out-takes" of our own family Christmas photos to prove it...}
I love receiving cards but rarely give-I know, I know not very nice. It's a goal to work on. We display on the banister with clothes pins.
Taped to my door in the shape of a Christmas tree. The clutteriness of it makes Ryan crazy.
I like: your cards! And also newsy Christmas letters with a little bit of humor. No bragging, please.
Pet peeve: pictures of just-the-kids, instead of the whole family.
Christmas cards are my deranged hobby. It is pathetic how much thought I put into something that, let's face it, is no better than the average card and gets chucked in the trash. But I have made peace with the fact that I really do them for my own enjoyment, and like to think that somewhere, someone is happy to get them.
(Now you feel like that someone has to be you. Don't).
We hang ours on the pantry doors and I look at them every day.
Are you getting the sense that I'm a little crazy with the cards? :-)
I meant we hang the ones we get on our pantry doors, not our own card. Had to clarify, lest the crazy become even MORE crazy.
I have a love/hate with the annual news letters. Seriously, how can every child I know be an all-star and win the championship? I do love to mock. I love to recieve and stress about sending. This year my card will be less than stellar. One kid is on a mission so what do I do? Include a seperate picture of him? Leave him out? It won't be right whichever way I decide to go. I am happy he is on a mission, it just messes with my holiday plans.
as you know, i do the photo dvd card. but then i feel sad because no one is going to hang that up on their door.
i'm not sure what i'll do this year. i'm toying with a few ideas. we'll see which one makes the cut.
i hang ribbons in front of the bay window in the kitchen, and attach the cards to the ribbons.
Confession, my Christmas cards are boring, I don't even try to address that. But, I send them every year, and that's as much as I can promise. Oh, and my kids are pretty cute, so that helps make up for my limited imagination. I like: your Christmas cards too, by the way.
[Annie: Linsey, I love your card! And it was the first to arrive this year so it holds a special place in my heart. And display. :)]
My favorite thing in the world is getting christmas cards. I love seeing friends faces and getting a little snapshot of their year. We hang ours on a string "swag" that hangs between our living and dining rooms areas. It makes me smile to see them. I've had to slow down on the sending them as my list has become a little overwhelming. Some years I'll send a thanksgiving card or valentine's card just to keep from going crazy.
I'm a little late to this party, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Christmas cards. Love making them, love receiving them. It's probably my favorite thing of the year. I loved your past cards post. I blogged mine, once, too. I'm trying to come up with a fun way of displaying my own past cards at home.
I sent mine last week and have received 3. Let the games begin!
I strictly recommend not to hold off until you get enough cash to buy different goods! You should get the credit loans or just consolidation loans and feel yourself comfortable
